Russia Harvested 79.3 Million MT Grain To October 5


Russia harvested 79.3 million metric tons of grain to Oct. 5 in bunker weight, compared with 70.1 million tons on the same date last year, an agriculture ministry official said in a telephone conversation from Moscow Friday.
 
The grain was harvested on 39.6 million hectares, 89.2% of the total area to be harvested.
 
The wheat harvest to date was 46.4 million, compared with 34.9 million tons on the same date last year. The average wheat yield to date was 2.14 tons/ha, compared with 1.8 tons on the same date a year ago.
 
The corn harvest to date was 624,800 tons on 148,000 ha, 16.3% of the total area to be harvested.
 
The agriculture ministry expects a grain harvest of 73-76 million tons in clean weight.
 
Russia's 2003 grain harvest was 67.2 million tons in clean weight, 22.4% down on 2002.
