Value of corn exports from Brazil's Mato Grosso up four-fold
Corn exports from Brazil's agricultural state of Mato Grosso do Sul in the first nine months of the year rose four-fold to US$78.1 million, from US$19.8 million a year ago while volumes more than tripled to 473,000 tonnes, up from 175,000 tonnes.
The exports of the state totalled US$1.0 billion for January to September 2007, up 20.71 percent on-year.
The figures were provided by Brazil's Trade Ministry Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX) on October 9, 2007.
Soy complex, including soys, soy meal and soy oil, corn, grains and poultry meat remained the state's most exported products, accounting for 64 percent of the total exports.
The exports of these products hit US$650 million, against US$425 million in the same period of 2006.
The state's poultry exports registered a strong rise and ranked the second most exported product after the soy complex. Chicken meat exports stood at US$134 million, a 72-percent increase.
Mato Grosso do Sul's soy complex exports went up by 33.7 percent to US$437.8 million. Soy complex accounted for 43 percent of total state's exports.
