Indonesia Prohibits Beef Imports from India
The Indonesian Agriculture Ministry is working closely with customs, police and the Navy and Transportation Ministry to prevent Indian meat imports from entering into the country, Director General of Animal Husbandry Production, Sofjan Sudradjat, said. Police and customs officers recently uncovered several cases of meat smuggling from India to Medan and Tanjung Balai.
The Indonesian government has banned imports of Indian meat due to doubts about their slaughtering techniques, from the fact that cows are sacred animals in India.
