Three more African swine fever cases in Germany, swine prices unchanged

Brandenburg's state government confirmed three more African swine fever (ASF) cases among wild boar in the state located east of Germany, while swine prices in the country have remained the same, Reuters reported.

This brings the total ASF cases detected in Brandenburg to 53, according to the Brandenburg state health ministry. The ministry said all cases have been limited to wild boar, and no farm livestock have been infected.

The ASF cases were confirmed by Germany's Friedrich-Loeffler scientific institute.

Swine prices in Germany remained unchanged at EUR 1.27 (~US$1.49; EUR 1 = US$1.18) per kg, even though China and other pork buyers have banned German pork imports, said the association of German animal farmers.

Traders are looking to increase German pork demand in the European Union, while other neighbouring producers such as Denmark, Spain and the Netherlands fill up the gap German pork imports left behind to the Asian market.
