AquaChile maintains lead amid fall in Chile's salmon exports
Chile exported a total of 357,474 tonnes of salmon in the first eight months of this year, reflecting a 3% losson-year from 367,615 tonnes.
These sales abroad generated returns of US$2.881billion, a 28%increase on-year.
According to a report issued by InfoTrade for Aqua, the average price during the first eight months of 2014 was US$8.06 per kg, 32% more than the US$6.10 per kg in the same period last year.
Between January and August this year, Empresas AquaChile retained its leadership position in terms of returns, with sales of US$368.2 million.
CermaqChile ranked second, with sales of US$261.7 million, followed by Marine Harvest, with sales of US$246 million.They were followed by Los Fiordos, with sales of US$230 million; Multiexport with sales of US$199 million; SalmonesBlumarat US$155 million; Camanchacaat US$141 million; and Salmones Humboldt at US$122 million.
Up to August 2014, export volumes of the major salmon companies were44,774 tonnes for AquaChile, 34,820 tonnes for Cermaq and 29,962 tonnes for Marine Harvest.
As for exportmarkets, between January and August 2014 the main destination was the United States, which reached US$983 million. This was followed by Japan at US$658 million; Latin America at US$516 million; Asia (excluding Japan)at US$338 million; the European Union at US$182 million; and Russia at US$155 million.
Salmon exports in Augustreached US$31 million, a 121.4% jumpfrom July. Experts said that this could be attributed to the one-year embargo imposed by the Russian government on agricultural imports from the United States, the European Union, Norway, Canada and Australia.
