Japanese firm expresses interest in Queensland beef

Iwasaki Group president Yoshitaro Iwasaki expressed interest in a project to join the wagyu beef industry in Queensland, Australia.

Iwasaki's proposals would aim to leverage off the Queensland beef industry's reputation in the global market.

Premier Campbell Newman said he was extremely supportive of Iwasaki's proposal to join the wagyu beef industry in Queensland.

"Japan is a major producer of wagyu beef and I welcome Iwasaki's proposed investment in our State," he said.

Not only should his proposals bring new skills, expertise, bloodlines and technologies to Queensland, but it fits well with Queensland's overarching commitment to double farm gate production by 2040, Newman said.

He said, "The Government will take an active role in connecting Iwasaki with leaders in the Queensland cattle industry who I'm certain will be interested in exploring his proposals further."

Iwasaki was negotiating with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.
