Ukraine Exported 3.43 Million MT 2004 Grain To October 5

Ukraine exported 3.43 million metric tons of grain between the beginning of the current marketing year July 1 and Oct. 5, according to a statement released in Kiev Thursday by the state customs committee.

The exports included 1.153 million tons of wheat, 2.130 million tons of barley, 140,500 tons of corn and 5,534 tons of rye.

The agriculture ministry expects near nine million tons of grain exports in the current season.

In the previous season exports fell to 2.8 million tons, as bad weather reduced the harvest to just over 20 million tons from nearly 40 million the year before.

This year the agriculture ministry expects the grain harvest to be about 36 million tons.
