China Hog: Prices rise to levels unseen since March 2021 (week ended Oct 3, 2022)

An eFeedLink Exclusive

After surging to levels unseen since March 2021, high prices of hog dampened buying interest. Nonetheless, as slaughter volumes remained limited despite expanding over the week, prices of hog stayed firm.

On average, hog prices remained at RMB24.41/kg.

Slaughter volumes in major wholesale centres increased 3.3% to 7,358 tonnes while pork carcass prices inched up 0.84% to RMB31.28/kg.

Prices of hog are higher by 98% compared with a year ago. This will put a lid on hog prices in conjunction with weakened post-holiday prices.
