Russia grain exports down 13 percent in Q1 of agricultural year



Russia's grain exports during the first three months of the 2009-10 agricultural year had declined nearly 13 percent on-year to about 5.5 million tonnes, according to analyst Rusagrotrans.


The agricultural year started in July.


In September alone, Russia exported two million tonnes of grain, down from 2.2 million tonnes in August. Railway transportation of grain rose to 600,000 tonnes from 550,000 tonnes.


In August, Russia's grain exports fell seven percent on-year.


On the other hand, Ukraine's grain exports exceed Russia's, replacing Russia as the world's third largest grain exporter while Russia fell to fourth place.
