US firm builds seafood processing plant in China
Seattle-based Chang International will build a US$10-million seafood processing plant near China's Qingdao International airport, with the first stage of construction expected to be finished by May.
At a productivity of 30 million pounds a year, the plant will include a cold-storage facility and produce portion-controlled, value-added products under Chang's Ocean Gala and Evergeeen Foods brands. The products will be sold to the US, Europe and Japan.
The product line includes redfish, flounder, tilapia and catfish.
With the establishing of Chang International Qingdao, annual sales are expected to sales exceed US$50 million by end of 2006.
Chang International had also opened an office in Sendai, Japan, in July to further develop the Japanese market.
