Central Luzon still Philippines' top chicken-producing region

Central Luzon remained the top chicken-producing region in the Philippines during the first half of 2022, latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.

The region's total chicken production from January to June 2022 was estimated at 325,523 tonnes, contributing 35.5% of the country's total chicken output.

Calabarzon ranked second contributing 17.8% or an equivalent of 163,178 tonnes, while Northern Mindanao ranked third with 9.2% share or 84,201 tonnes production.

The region's latest figures were also higher by 19.5% compared to the same period of the previous year at 272,337 tonnes.

The region was also still the top producer of duck in the Philippines from January to June this year, with 2,678 tonnes.

In a report, PSA regional chief Arlene Divino said although Central Luzon's duck production was lower by 41.3% than its 4,563 tonnes volume of production in the same period of 2021, it did not affect the region's ranking.

"Central Luzon's significant performance in the national production registered 21.3% share despite its drop in production of 1,885 metric tonnes," Divino said.

The second highest duck producer region was Soccsksargen with 17.7% share, followed by Northern Mindanao with 11.1% contribution in the country's production.

Meanwhile, the total chicken egg production in Central Luzon also grew by 14.4% during the first half of the year, or an equivalent increase of 9,425 tonnes compared to the same period last year of 65,476 tonnes.

Central Luzon contributed 21% to the country's total chicken egg production, the second highest chicken egg producing region in the country.

Calabarzon ranked first with 33.3% share or 118,878 tonnes of production.
