Brazil's chicken exports fall to 200,400 tonnes in September

Brazil's chicken exports slipped in September to 200,400 tonnes compared to August shipments of 285,700 tonnes, the Foreign Trade Ministry said Monday (Oct 2).

Exports declined in relation to September 2005 exports of 247,700 tonnes.

The Trade Ministry did not provide analysis for the decline.

In late September, the Brazilian Chicken Exporters Association said it expected declines in September because of the continued drop in chicken consumption in markets impacted by bird flu disease.

Daily volume declined by 19 percent to 10,000 tonnes, according to the ministry. Revenue declined to US$231.5 million compared to US$310 million in August and US$314 million in September 2005.

Brazil is the world's no. 1 chicken exporter.
