China opens doors to pork imports from ASF-free regions of Russia
China has officially granted approval for the import of pork from specific regions of Russia that have remained free from African swine fever (ASF), according to an announcement made by China's customs agency, Farm Journal's Pork reported.
The prohibition on pork imports from Russia, prompted by the ASF outbreak, had been in effect since 2008. Russia has been diligently working to secure access to the Chinese pork market since 2013.
This process involved extensive negotiations, arranging visits for Chinese representatives to acquaint themselves with Russia's pork industry, and other related activities.
It is important to note that the inspection and quarantine requirements for Russian pork destined for China will be defined separately.
China's Ambassador to Russia, Zhang Hanhui, has previously articulated China's commitment to bolstering collaboration with Russia across all domains. This commitment extends to the ambitious goal of achieving a record-breaking US$200 billion in bilateral trade turnover.
