Argentina August soy, soymeal exports drop; oil up
Argentina's August soy exports totalled 649,396 tonnes, down sharply from the 1.96 million tonnes shipped a year earlier, according to the latest data from the agricultural health and sanitation service, Senasa.
Soy exports in August were valued at US$279 million compared with US$792 million a year earlier.
Soy exports during the first eight months of the year totalled 4.1 million tonnes, down from 9.1 million tonnes a year earlier.
China is the main market for Argentine soy exports, buying 3.1 million tonnes during the first eight months of the year.
Soymeal exports in August totalled 944,834 tons, down from 1.4 million tonnes a year earlier. August soymeal exports were valued at US$384 million, down from US$449 million a year earlier.
Soymeal exports during the first eight months of the year totalled 8.4 million tonnes, up from 6.8 million tonnes a year earlier.
During the first eight months of the year, Indonesia was the leading importer of Argentine soymeal, buying one million tonnes. Vietnam followed with 922,117 tonnes.
August soy pellet and cake exports totalled 154,865 tonnes, compared with 337,063 tonnes a year earlier.
Soy pellet and cake exports during the first eight months of the year totalled 561,560 tonnes, compared with 1.8 million tonnes a year earlier.
Iran was the top destination for Argentine soy pellet and cake exports during the first eight months of the year, followed by Colombia and Malaysia.
Soyoil exports in August totalled 204,885 tonnes, up from 201,073 tonnes a year earlier. August exports were valued at US$161 million.
Soyoil exports during the first eight months of the year totalled 2.2 million tonnes, down from 2.9 million tonnes a year earlier.
As usual, China was by far the leading buyer, buying 1.1 million tonnes during the first eight months of the year.
Argentina is the world's No. 3 soy producer and exporter behind the US and Brazil, and is the leading exporter of soyoil and soymeal.
