H5N6 bird flu outbreak reported in China's Guizhou province

Over 30,000 birds have been killed in a southwestern province in China following a bird flu outbreak, the agriculture ministry said on Saturday, Sept 29. 

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said in a statement that local authorities culled as many as 32,352 birds on a poultry farm in Guizhou province due to the outbreak of H5N6 avian influenza, Reuters reported.

H5N6 avian influenza emerged in Central China back in 2013 and has posed a potential threat to public health, according to an article published in the Journal of Virology.
