Indonesia unable to meet 30 percent of shrimp export orders
Indonesia will be unable to meet up to 30 percent of its 50,000 tonnes shrimp export orders due to supply shortages, according to an industry expert.
Â
Exporters often face supply shortages as there is a problem with domestic shrimp production, said Shidiq Moeslim, chairman of the Indonesian National Fisheries Society.
Â
Fishery exports had not improved significantly after the global financial crisis, and a shortage of raw fish supplies is jeopardising Indonesia's fishery export target for this year, he said.
Â
Shrimp exports account for 45 percent or about RP10 trillion (US$1.03 billion) of total fishery shipments which reached US$2.6 billion per year.
Â
Moeslim estimated that about RP3 trillion (US$311 million) worth of shrimp export deals failed to be carried out this year.
