China's Shineway to set up pig farm in Henan
Shineway Group will invest RMB700 million to establish a pig farm in Luohe city, Henan province. When completed, the farm can produce 2 million heads of hogs annually, according to trade sources.
In 2006, Luohe produced 3.65 million heads of hog, or 1.8 head per farmer on average. This was 3 times of the corresponding ratio for the whole of Henan Province. However, this was still insufficient in meeting the production needs of Shineway, one of China's largest meat processor.
Earlier, Shineway had already teamed up with foreign investors to set up 4 farms with a capacity of 120,000 heads of breeder pigs annually. The company had also built an 180,000-tonne per year feed milling plant.
