Brazil's Q2 cattle slaughter up 1.1 percent on-year
Brazilian cattle slaughter for the second quarter rose 1.1 percent on-year to 7.6 million animals, according to data released September 27, 2007 from the country's Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
Although second quarter slaughter was up on-year, it was 3.7 percent below the first quarter this year.
Brazil's beef output stood at a total 1.7 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2007 while milk production totalled 3.9 billion litres, up 2.3 percent.
The country's central-western Mato Grosso state was the top beef-producing state, accounting for 14.5 percent of Brazil's beef slaughter.
Southeastern Sao Paulo and central-western Mato Grosso do Sul followed with 13.5 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively.
Average weight per animal rose 2.2 percent, the IBGE said.
