Beyond Meat triples distribution at Walmart
Beyond Meat said its plant-based burger patties will be sold at 2,400 Walmart stores in the United States, triple its previous distribution numbers with the retailer as demand increases for plant-based alternative meats, Reuters reported.
Nielsen data showed demand has increased 25% for fully-cooked plant-based alternative meats in the four weeks to August 22, thanks to more health and environmentally conscious consumers.
The company said the tripled distribution of its Beyond Burger patties, made from peas, rice and mung bean, come after its successful value offerings campaign launched when normal ground beef prices rose due to COVID-19 supply chain issues.
Beyond Meat's expanded presence in retail also follow its shifted focus to retailers as restaurants remain closed to the COVID-19 restrictions. Half of the company's global sales come from restaurants like KFC and Dunkin Donuts.
Previously, Beyond Meat announced its new breakfast sausage patties were available at 5,000 additional stores in the United States by the end of this month. However, this new product is not part of the expanded distribution deal.
