Israeli broilers exposed to Newcastle disease

A new case of Newcastle disease has been reported in Isreal's broilers, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health.

The affected population is five to seven week old broilers from four pens. Within the susceptible flock of 103,500 birds, 1,500 deaths occurred, 4,500 cases were recorded and the remainder of the flock was destroyed.

Stamping out, quarantine, movement controls and zoning have been applied to prevent the spread of the disease. The source of the outbreak, which occurred in Avigedor, Ashkelon, remains unknown. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing.

The last outbreak of Newcastle disease in the country occurred in July.
