US poultry production in August 2021 increased 4% on year
The United States' poultry production in August this year was up 4% from production in the same period last year, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
The total of 4.42 billion pounds included 3.94 billion pounds of chicken, also up 4% on the year, with turkey at 469.561 million pounds, down 1%.
Chicken slaughter was 3% higher at 807.798 million head and the average weight of all chickens was slightly heavier at 6.47 pounds, while the turkey slaughter was 1% lower to 18.657 million head. The average live weight was a little lighter at 31.53 pounds.
Year to date poultry production is 33.927 billion pounds, just ahead of the 2020 pace.
The USDA's most recent cold storage report showed a 20% year to year drop for poultry supplies, indicating strong demand.
The USDA's next set of supply, demand, and production numbers is out on October 12.
