Kansas winter wheat planting gains ground

Kansas farmers are making good progress getting next year's winter wheat crop into the ground.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Monday (Sep 20) that 21% of the wheat acreage has now been planted. That's about even with late September last year but behind the five-year average of 28%.

Meanwhile, fall harvest of other crops is also going well.

Corn harvest is 54% complete. The harvest is more than a week ahead of normal and more than a month ahead of last year's rate.

About 13% of the sorghum and 7% of the soy have also been cut in Kansas.
