European Commission considers resuming UK beef sales in EU

The European Commission said it considered allowing resumption of UK beef sales in the EU, following a favourable report evaluating measures established by the British government against BSE, or mad cow disease.

British beef exports were banned within the EU since 1996 after the UK reported outbreaks of the disease. Although a few programmes were created to allow limited trade of British beef, the EU had not officially lifted the ban on it yet.
