Argentina's grains port workers stage 24-hour walk-off

URGARA, an Argentine grains port workers labour union said they will conduct a 24-hour walk-off after talks collapsed with the business chamber that represents private port owners on a collective work agreement, Reuters reported.

URGARA represents inspectors that check grains quality before they are loaded onto ships. The union called on its members to stop all their activities in ports in the whole Argentina.

Members of URGARA are important to port operations and grain shipments from Argentina to the rest of the world.

The walk-off is scheduled throughout all of September 28.

The URGARA union said it will attend a meeting with Claudio Moroni, Argentina's Labour Minister on September 29 to discuss a probable agreement with the Private Ports Chamber.

The Private Ports Chamber did not comment on the union's decision.

Argentina is the biggest soymeal livestock feed exporter in the world and third largest corn and raw soybeans supplier globally.
