Marine Harvest to close plant in Chile temporarily

Marine Harvest, an Oslo-based Norwegian aquaculture group, will close its last primary processing plant in Chile for 15 months, according to Marine Harvest Chile managing director Alvaro Jimenez.

The Tepual facility's 513-strong workforce will be laid off.

The move reflects a strong decrease in production volume due to the sanitary situation for the salmon industry in Chile, which has been severely hit by the disease infectious salmon anaemia (ISA).

The closure is scheduled for October.
