Global markets

CNF prices of Peruvian prime-grade fishmeal were the range of US$1,480/tonne.

Peru's fishing season in the southern seas, which was scheduled to end on October25, has been postponed to early November.

Market analysis

Port inventories of fishmeal increased slightly to 214,000 tonnes over the week, as demand dwindled while more imports arrived. Nonetheless, traders were reluctant to lower prices as Peru's fishmeal prices remained firm.

Price quotes for prime-grade products increased to the range of RMB10,400-10,500/tonne in the north, and were at RMB12,000-13,000.tonne in the south.

Market forecast

While import costs stay firm fishmeal traders will be inclined to stand firm on prices, which are relatively low. However, with aqua feed output diminishing, fishmeal market will be under pressure amid bloating port inventories.
