Livestock producers in Oklahoma get less than US$100 in drought aid

Most Okalahoma livestock producers would get less than US$100 from the US$6.5 million drought aid the US federal government has granted to farmers, local state media said.

State agriculture secretary Terry Peach said producers would have until November 20th to apply for the grant money.

Payments would only be made based only on animals owned as of March 7th under USDA guidelines.

Peach said although the federal aid is appreciated, it would hardly be sufficient to cover losses of livestock producers in Oklahoma and other drought-hit areas.
