Myanmar Corn Association aims to boost corn exports to China in 2023
The Myanmar Corn Industrial Association (MCIA) has expressed its intent to increase corn exports to China in 2023, The Star reported.
The MCIA has set an ambitious target of exporting 400,000 tonnes of corn to China within the current year. The corn export season typically spans from September to January, with shipments also destined for other countries such as Vietnam and the Philippines.
While Thailand remains the top importer of Myanmar's corn, the MCIA is keen on expanding its presence in the Chinese market to bolster the nation's overall corn exports.
Corn ranks as a significant export commodity for Myanmar, following beans and pulses in terms of importance.
Myanmar is projected to achieve total corn exports of 2 million tonnes in the current year, with 1 million tonnes already exported to Thailand during the period from February to August.
