US pork exports surge 34 percent in July 2005
US pork exports surged 34 percent to about 225 million pounds in July 2005, compared with the same period in 2004, the USDA said.
The sharp rise was mainly due to a surge in Japanese demand for US pork products, the USDA added.
Meanwhile, Canada and Mexico imported about 63 percent and 16 percent more respectively of US pork in July 2005, compared with July 2004.
The USDA expected Canada to import more US pork to replace domestically produced products that it was exporting.
