Uruguay Lifts Ban Most Of Argentine Beef

Uruguay on Thursday lifted its 20-day-old ban on beef from most parts of Argentina.

However, the country will maintain its ban on beef from the northern Argentine, which are close to Paraguay and Bolivia, the source of the original foot-and-mouth infection.

Uruguay had banned local beef dates from Sept. 4, a day before Argentina confirmed an outbreak of FMD with Brazil and Chile also following suit. Argentina is confident these markets also will soon reopen their doors to local beef products.
