Avian influenza outbreak detected at northern Israel poultry farm
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Israel reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza at a poultry farm in northern Israel, Nam News Network reported.
The H5N1 influenza subtype was detected at a breeding coop housing 34,000 broiler chickens in the village of Nahalal, located in the Jezreel Valley. This farm is situated approximately 600 metres from a turkey farm where bird flu had broken out earlier this month.
This marks the third bird flu outbreak reported by the ministry this year. Two of these outbreaks have been in Nahalal, while the other occurred at a turkey farm in the village of Ram-On, about 20 km south of Nahalal.
In response to the latest outbreak, authorities have quarantined all chicken coops within a 10 km radius of the infected site. Active monitoring of all coops in the surrounding area has also commenced to prevent the spread of the disease.
The ministry has issued guidelines for ornamental bird breeders and coop owners, advising them to keep their animals indoors to reduce the risk of infection.
