Argentina beef exports down 2% for July 2012

Argentina's beef exports for July dropped 2% compared to the same period of 2011.

Beef exports in July fell 23% on-year to 9,353 tonnes. This was driven by a fall in exports to Russia, Venezuela and the US.

Between January and July 2012, Argentina exported 69,000 tonnes of beef to export markets. The main markets included Israel and Chile, with a share of 21% of the export market. Germany was the third largest importer of Argentine beef, taking 19% of total exports.

Economic problems in Europe affected the prices received for high value cuts, which were 2% lower than previously.

Prices improved in Chile by 16%, with the average shipment being valued at US$6,300 per tonne.
