Australian pork industry aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions

The Australian pork industry believes it can achieve net zero carbon emissions within five years.

Consumers preferred sustainably-produced food and cutting emissions from pig farms was an important part of that, the peak industry body said.

Emissions would be eliminated by introducing new types of feed and making better use of pig waste, Australian Pork Limited's research and innovation manager, Darryl D'Souza said.

He added that the industry is currently looking at things like algae as a potential source of feed energy that can reduce methane emission.
