Spain's agri-food, fishery exports hit record in value last year

Spain's agri-food and fishery exports reached an all-time high of €70,431 million  in 2023, with a balance that recovered from the previous year's decline and grew by 10% to €15,472 million.

These data are recorded in the Annual Report on Foreign Trade 2023 from the country' Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food.

The leading export subsector last year by economic importance is the Spanish meat group, at €10,299 million. Exports from the meat and fish preparations group increased the most compared to 2022, with an increase of 10.9% and a total export value of €2,458 million.

The meat sector continues to be a fundamental pillar of Spain's agri-food exports. In 2023, meat exports increased by 5.9% over the previous year, reaching a positive trade balance of €8,328 million, the highest in its entire historical series.

Within the sector, pork accounts for 71% of total meat exports, consolidating its position as the most exported product.

In the past year, pork meat (TARIC 02.03) was exported valued at 6,295 M€, 7.76% more than in 2022 with a total of 1,918,607 tonnes (8.5% less than in 2022). Italy accounts for 11.3% of the export value, China for 10.8%, and France for 10.6%.

Prices have increased from €2.34/kg in 2019 to €2.88/kg in 2023. Prices have increased by 14.1% in 2023 compared to 2022.
