Good Prospects For E.U. Sheep Say Analyst

The outlook for EU sheep farmers looks bright and upbeat, if latest remarks by the Irish Food Board, an Irish food promotion body, is anything to go by.

It estimates that self-sufficiency will only reach seventy-five percent by 2008 as production continues to slide. This shortage in supplies however is unlikely to be met by increased imports due to tight global volumes and tariff quotas.

With consumer demand likely to remain steady until 2008, EU sheep producers could continue to enjoy the 250% price differential that sheep meat currently has relative to other meats.
