Pakistan Government To Help Poultry Farmers

The Livestock Minister at Pakistan's state of Punjab, Syed Haroon Ahmad Sultan said on Saturday that the government would extend all possible help to poultry breeders.

He made this announcement while addressing the last session of sixth National Poultry Congress held by the Pakistan Poultry Association, pledging at the same time to ease tax burdens borne by poultry farms.

Up to 73 per cent of the country's poultry needs were provided by the Livestock Department. Pakistan's growing poultry industry adds Rs 70 billion annually to the country's GDP, he said.

The Livestock Ministry will aid the local farmers by working for their access to key European markets. Poultry farmers, however, were encouraged to adopt the latest technology to export their products, adding that the government will provide the vaccines needed to ensure good animal health.

The minister also assured the participants that he would personally convey poultry breeders' problems to the chief minister.
