Brazil antitrust court approves Sadia-Perdigao merger overseas

Brazil's top antitrust court, CADE, authorised the merger of the overseas operations of local food processing leaders Sadia and Perdigao, the court said Monday (Sept 21).

Perdigao earlier this year purchased rival Sadia to form South America's largest food processing company, BRF - Brasil Foods SA.

With the decision, the two companies can coordinate negotiation of volumes and prices with their final clients in overseas markets, as well as manage shipping, warehousing, insurance and client credit analysis.

Under the decision, however, the companies were required to maintain their respective export volumes from Brazil and preserve their individual brand names abroad.
