Hong Kong lifts bans on three US beef plants
The Hong Kong government has lifted bans on imports from three US beef plants of Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation, Harris Ranch Beef Company and Swift & Company, according to the USDA.
Beef derived from cattle slaughtered on or after Aug 18 in the plants would be allowed for exports to Hong Kong.
These plants had previously been suspended early this year as bone fragments were detected in shipments.
Hong Kong had earlier allowed only boneless beef in US shipments.
Four additional US beef plants, namely that from Schrieber Processing Corporation, Skylark Meats, Smithfield Beef Group and Tyson Fresh Meats were also approved by Hong Kong authorities. They were allowed to export to Hong Kong beef derived from cattle slaughtered on or after 28 August.
