China lifts import ban on Hungarian wheat
China has lifted an import ban, which had been in place since 1997, on Hungarian wheat, state news agency MTI quoted Hungarian Agriculture Minister Jozsef Graf as saying Thursday (Sep 21).
China used to have the ban on Hungarian wheat on health concerns.
Graf added that he's also in talks with Chinese officials visiting Hungary about lifting import bans on Hungarian meat products, mainly on poultry products.
Lifting the import ban on wheat did not bring any concrete business deals for Hungarian wheat traders, but has opened up the possibility for them to seek export opportunities in China, Graf added.
Hungary had a bumper wheat crop in 2005 and 2004.
