Canada's Mad Cow Probe Costs Over C$8 million
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency, or CFIA, spent C$8.2 million on its 21-day investigation of the single case of mad cow disease, even as the country's cattle industry continues to struggle, a CFIA official confirmed Friday.
Three million alone was spent testing the brains of 2,000 cattle in its search for the origins of the infected cow and other possible cases of the disease.
