Rainfall might cripple Australia's wheat harvest

Grain companies are worried that a major rainfall during harvest could downgrade much of Australia's bumper wheat crop.

Growers along the eastern seaboard of Australia are experiencing ideal growing conditions for wheat, but a lot of rain at harvest could damage crops and downgrade large amounts of wheat to feed quality.

AWB's national acquisition manager Jon White says in some areas it has already happened.

"Unfortunately we have seen a pretty significant event through central Queensland as they start their harvest," he said.

The country has seen a very wet winter and continuing into spring.
