China to discuss lifting of ban on Brazilian beef
Brazilian and Chinese Ministry of Agriculture representatives would assess the possibility of re-opening the Chinese market to Brazilian beef this week, according to Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).
Brazilian beef has been banned from China since an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in October 2005.
Chinese inspectors are inspecting facilities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which was previously hit by outbreaks.
An agreement is expected by the end of September.
