Meghalaya, India, to compensate cattle farmers following LSD infections

 

 

 

The government of Meghalaya, India, has assured to compensate cattle farmers after over 9,000 cattle have been affected by the lumpy skin disease (LSD) in the state.

 

This was made known by Minister in-charge Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Al Hek during a legislative assembly. He also said that no compensation has been provided to cattle farmers so far.

 

Hek revealed that four veterinary hospitals and 125 dispensaries are providing medicines and vaccination to battle against the disease.

 

He noted that ₹1,620,000 (US$19,472) compensation was provided to farmers during the 2020-21 period for the deaths of 540 pigs due to African swine fever.
