Philippines Targeted By Australian Cattle Exporters
The Territory Cattlemen's Association in Australia says local cattle exporters are in a good position to take advantage of any increase in demand for live cattle in the Philippines.
An industry and Territory Government delegation has just returned from a trade mission to the country.
The association's Stuart Kenny says exporters are keen to rebuild Territory cattle exports to the Philippines from 32,000 head this year to the former highs of about 80,000 head a year.
He says the high Australian dollar and competition from other sources such as chicken, has reduced demand.
"We were extremely warmly welcomed," he said.
"The Territory has an excellent working relationship with the Philippines, and we see this as a delegation to rebuild relationships and to look at a long-term view on a key market for the Territory."
