Cause of Mad Cow Disease Proven
A University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute Scientist has proven what causes Mad Cow Disease.
Although theories have existed for 30 years that prion proteins found in the brain can change shape causing the disease, the team is the first to prove it.
The results will now allow scientists to focus on how to treat and even cure Mad Cow Disease and other forms of brain degenerative disease by focusing on the cause.
Mad Cow Disease has killed more than 100 people in the United Kingdom and one in the U.S.
Furthermore, countless cows had to be put down to stop the epidemic, and consumers are afraid that beef is unsafe to eat.
