Turkish poultry production, slaughterings rise in July
Production of Turkish poultry products and chicken and turkey slaughterings rose in July compared with the previous month, data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) showed.
Chicken meat production increased 10.1% in July to 196,614 tonnes compared with June, and increased 0.3% compared with the same month last year.
Turkey meat production also increased 18.3% in July to 7,332 tonnes compared with the previous month, and was up 33% from the same month last year.
The number of slaughtered chickens in July totalled 112 million, up 9.7% compared with the previous month, but was down 2.1% compared with the same month of the previous year.
Slaughtered turkeys in July numbered 631,000, up 10.4% in July compared with the previous month, and up 22% compared with the same month of the previous year.
Meanwhile, Turkey's hen egg production increased 4.4% to 1.6 billion units in July, compared with the previous month, and increased 0.8% compared with the same month in 2017.
Turkey is one of the world's main exporters of poultry products.
