Bird flu kills 22,580 chickens in East Java from Jan-Sep 2007
Bird flu has killed 22,580 chickens in Indonesia's East Java Province in the first nine months of the year, a local official said.
The chickens were mostly from back-yard farms, Antara news agency quoted Bambang Hermawan of the East Java provincial animal husbandry service as saying.
Bird flu cases were found in 25 districts/towns in the province, said the official.
Authorities have implemented necessary measures to prevent the spread of bird flu virus, he said.
Indonesia is one of the worst-hit countries in the world by bird flu. Bird flu has killed 85 people out of 106 affected persons in the country.
