Murray's Chicken set to sell more chicken to hospitals

New York-based Murray's Chicken has struck an agreement with a body of healthcare providers to publicise the sale of antibiotic-free, certified humane chicken products to hospitals and other institutions.

Under the contract, beginning October 1, Premier healthcare alliance will refer members of its purchasing network, which includes hospitals, nursing homes, universities and public school systems, to Murray's for chicken raised without antibiotics and arsenic.

Members of the alliance will be able to access Murray's products, ranging from raw chicken to gluten-free chicken nuggets, through US Foodservice, Premier's primary distributor.

"As people become more aware of what they are eating, it is now being developed in food service," Steve Gold, vice president of marketing and sales for Murray's Chicken, told Meatingplace.

"We are excited that more of our products will be served in hospitals," he said.

Premier works with more than 2,500 US hospitals and 76,000 other institutions, according to its web site.
