US 2009-10 soy exports to Southeast Asia climb 33%
US soy exports to Southeast Asia have risen 30% in the marketing year to August 2010 to 2.3 million tonnes and may rise further to 2.5 million tonnes this year, a senior industry executive said Tuesday (Sep 14).
"Tight supplies from South America and a rise in soy crushing capacity in Thailand have given a big push to US soy sales," said John Lindblom, Regional Director for SE Asia for the American Soybean Association International Marketing.
He added that a new soy crushing plant coming up in Vietnam may support US soy sales in 2010-11, though the growth in exports will be tempered by greater supply from Argentina.
