Brazil's per capita fish consumption rises by 30 percent

The per capita fish consumption in Brazil has risen about 30 percent, from 6.8 to 8 kilograms per capita each year, in just two years, announced Jos¨¦ Fritsch, the minister of the Special Secretariat of Aquiculture and Fishery of the Republic on Sep 14.

Fritsch stated that fish is now slowly rising in popularity in Brazil.

However, there are several Brazilian states where consumption is still not significant: Goi¨¢s, Paran¨¢, São Paulo, the interior of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, as well as the Federal District, where the capital city Brasilia is located.

The minister said that the secretariat is also hoping to encourage the country to consume frozen fish.
